2017 Toyota International

After four days of intense training for our Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) National Squad at the Japanese National Training centre in Tokyo with National Coach Mihai, the athletes and their coaches returned to Australia over the weekend.

Georgia Godwin (QLD) and Kiara Munteanu (VIC), along with their coaches, were selected to stay on to compete at the Toyota International.

In a relatively small but extremely high quality field, Godwin and Munteanu held their own across the two days of competition.

Following on from her good form at the 2017 World Championships in Montreal, Godwin put in another consistent competition, finishing 7th on Vault (13.566) and Uneven Bars (12.300), 10th on Beam (12.200), and 6th on Floor (12.866).

Meanwhile Munteanu – in her first international competition from a long hiatus due to injury – placed 20th on Uneven Bars (10.533), 12th on Beam (11.500), and 10th on Floor (12.260).

The WAG National Squad will meet for their next training camp in January, at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
