Vitaly Scherbo Invitational
The Australian Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) Levels Team trained up a storm in Las Vegas during the past week, in preparation for the 2017 Vitaly Scherbo Invitational event.
After an incredibly long event on competition day, the Australian MAG Levels team did us proud out on the competition floor. Our Level 9 team which consisted of Angus Laurie, Ben Dempsey and Oliver Stack finished took a clean sweep of the All-Around podium, finishing first, second, and third respectively, as well as placing first overall in the team event.
In the Level 10 division the boys competed against an extremely competitive field, and despite missing out on a podium finish in the All-Around competition, the team placed fifth overall. The Level 10 team consisted of Jae Nagel, Darius Hadi, Tristian Collins and Patrick Rudd.
In the exhibition event, Australian gymnasts Joel Brown and Hayden Greenough both received individual medals at the end of the competition from the team at the Vitaly Scherbo Invitational. The guys all put in some strong performances and did us all proud.
On a sad note, Western Australian Level 10 gymnast, Jake Thompson, injured himself during the first day of training in America and was unable to compete. Jake however was an important part of the team, and we wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to having him back in the gym soon.
Congratulations to the entire delegation – led by head coach Martin Shields – on a successful tour of the USA!
