Professional Development for Beginner and Intermediate Coaches

The focus of professional development at this stage of coach development is primarily around building your personal coaching skills and technical knowledge. It could include a diverse range of activities such as club or state workshops, online learning, webinars, observation of training, volunteering at events etc. Professional development at the Beginner and Intermediate level is primarily delivered by the State/Territory Association via an annual education congress and other appropriate workshops delivered annually.

Some ideas of specific topics for a Beginner / Intermediate Coach are:

  • Communication and organisational skills for the Beginner / Intermediate Coach

  • Building your personal skills on ‘how to coach’ effectively

  • Health and safety policies, risk management and implementing sports injury prevention

  • Teaching fundamental gymnastics skills relevant to the specific Gymsport – includes skill progressions and techniques
